HR Truck License Perth
TSDT can help you obtain your HR truck drivers license, which allows you to drive heavy vehicles with three or more axles and a gross vehicle mass greater than 8,000 kg. You will also be allowed to tow a trailer with a maximum GVM of 9,000 kg.
As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #52903), TSDT is approved to train and assess the unit of competence TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to drive a heavy rigid vehicle safely, including systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring of traffic and road conditions, management of vehicle condition and performance, and effective management of hazardous situations.
If you meet the eligibility criteria and pass the eye test, you can train for a HR licence with TSDT as an authorised RTO. If you choose to do so you will be required to successfully complete the TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle course before you can sit a Department of Transport practical driving assessment with us.
TSDT is authorised by the Department of Transport (DoT) (Provider #683) to conduct practical driving assessments for the HR, HC and MC class licences. Therefore, this enables you to complete both your training and assessment for the unit of competency and your DoT practical driving assessment on site with us.
Please note that until you have presented your Statement of Attainment, Eye Test form and Certificate of Competency at a DVS centre and your licence record has been endorsed with the new class, you will not be entitled to drive a vehicle of class HR. A processing fee will be charged by DoT for this service.
Eligibility:
In order to gain your HR class licence in Western Australia you must no longer be a provisional driver and have held both:
- C Class licence for at least two years; or
- Light Rigid (LR class) or Medium Rigid (MR class) licence for at least one year.
It is also a Department of Transport requirement that you pass an eyesight test at the commencement of your training. If you usually wear glasses or contact lenses while driving you must be wearing these during the eyesight test.

Our training is open to anyone wanting to learn how to drive trucks and is conducted from our head office in 5 Agett Rd, Malaga
What can I drive with a HR license?
A Heavy Rigid (HR class) licence allows you to drive heavy vehicles with three or more axles and a gross vehicle mass greater than 8,000 kg. You will also be allowed to tow a trailer with a maximum GVM of 9,000 kg.
A HR licence may also have gear box restrictions which include:
- HR – has no restrictions and allows you to drive any heavy vehicle that has an automatic, synchromesh or crashbox (also know as roadranger) gearbox.
- HR-A is a restricted heavy vehicle licence that only allows you to drive heavy vehicles that have an automatic gearbox.
- HR- B is a restricted heavy vehicle licence that only allows you to drive heavy vehicles that have a synchromesh or automatic gearbox.
Once you have your HR license (no gearbox restrictions) you will have the broadest driving options allowing you to drive any HR vehicle (road rangers, manual and automatic gearboxes).
